Advice
Much of my job involves giving advice. As a consultant, I am expected to know a great deal, or at least be able to find the information quickly and apply it to the present circumstances. Most of the time it's well received and appreciated. However, it's not difficult to see when some of my franchise owners view it as something other than unwelcome. That's when I came across this quote from Dr. Johnson in a letter he wrote to Henry Thrale on May 30, 1780. Samuel Johnson wrote, "Advice, as it always gives the temporary appearance of superiority, can never be very grateful, even when it is most necessary or most judicious."
