After Second Snowstorm

We have bright sunshine this morning. After waffles and bacon and a vigorous game of Sequence and some strong coffee we all went for a walk in the snow. Click here to see what we saw this morning. Tonight we're going over to Kathy and Leon's house for dinner.

Privacy....not this day

Okay it's snowing a lot. Yesterday evening I am shoveling the drive so the pizza guy can deliver the pizza without slipping. A good deed, right? You would think I'd have some privacy outside. A man can do what he wants to do when he is alone. No one within earshot. Right... Not so yesterday. The kids were videotaping me. If you're interested in what these cretins saw and heard, take a look at this video. Nothing like having an audience.

Probability of Precipitation

Yes, it's 100% for today and tomorrow! Click on the title for the Denver update. According to the news we're supposed to get a foot or more in Littleton, which means even more at the house. Today, we're going out to breakfast with the kids and then to Tattered Cover Bookstore. If the weather holds out, then a little more X-country skiing will be in order.

Skiing near the house

Yesterday I took Nancy, Seth, and Noelle cross country skiing on some nice groomed trails at Chatfield Park. It was almost too hot and so we just wore shirts or light sweaters. That's Colorado! We took a nice little break at the gazebo by the lake. Today Seth and I went cross country skiing near the house. The snow was a little frozen this morning and so we went a little fast coming back down. Whoopeee!! The temperature was 50 but it felt like 40 today. We had a great time.

Why I blog

One of the reasons I am writing this is for my own benefit. Rather than waste time doing things like watching TV or worse yet playing solitaire, I decided it would simply be better to do this. The other reason is it forces me to speak the truth. Not that I have a problem with the truth, but the natural inclination when you write is to make yourself compelling to others. I'm sure all writers want to avoid being boring which can be done by stretching the truth or by writing fiction. If I go swimming, I strip down first. In order to seek the truth you must first strip off in an inward sense. You must take off much more internal attire of thoughts, opinions, selfishness, etc. before you're sufficiently authentic.

Tyler does a good job of this in his blog (other than stories about French dogs and Italian Pigeons). You should check out what he does. I am very proud of him and appreciate the person he has become. The link to his blog is on this page.

Christmas Day

Yesterday we watched the Denver Bronco/Cincinnati game. The Broncos won in a snowstorm 24 to 23 in spite of themselves. Both teams played very poorly. Our new quarterback Jay Cutler did set a record. See the link above if you're interested. The best part was having Seth, Noelle, Dee, and Nancy here to cheer them on with me. We missed Tyler and talked about him often.

We enjoyed Christmas Day, ate lots of food and relaxed. The service at Aspen Grove was good and featured Scott who couldn't make up his mind if he was a shepherd or a redneck. A bunch of us decided to nickname him "Scooter" Wenig. He did a great job though.

Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and there is still a couple of feet of snow on the ground. Seth and Noelle are visiting, and Dee as well. It's certainly a joy to have them all here. Tonight we're going to the Christmas Eve service at Aspen Grove Community Church.

This year I'm reminded of four prophecies, all of which have come true. This first is from Micah 5:2 which is about Bethlehem, although small, a ruler will come from it and of course it's the birthplace of Jesus. The second is from Hosea 11 in which "God called a Son out of Egypt." The third is from Jeremiah 31 which talks about bitter weeping and Rachel weeping for her children who were murdered in Bethlehem (the baby Jesus escaped to Egypt with Mary and Joseph). The fourth is "that he should be called a Nazarene." What's the meaning of a Nazarene? It's one who is held in contempt and also means a shoot or a branch. Jeremiah 33:15 says that God will cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up into David and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

When will the world come to realize that even though he is a "Nazarene" of men, considered of little worth, He is God's highest One on Earth? Micah said the King should come through Bethlehem and he did. Jeremiah said he would come through Egypt in oppression and he did. Jeremiah said that Rachel would weep and she did at the hands of Herod. And, finally the prophets said He would be a Nazarene and a sprout. The sprout became a branch, filled with the Spirit and the flaming Son of God, full of Majesty and Glory. The world has no idea who He really is.

For more on this read Matthew chapter 2 in the Bible. This is the time of year to read it.
