Time on the river

In case you're wondering where I've been, well, I took a couple of days off and then spent the last four days on the Colorado river with Paul and Kathy, their kids, and friends. We had a great time rafting Ruby Canyon.

Time on the river rewarded us with many sightings of bald eagles and the beetles introduced in the area to eat and control the pesky tamarisk trees. The beetles are certainly voracious as they've eaten nearly everyone one we saw.

So we set up a nice party tent and tarp to get some shade from the hot sun. We put the kitchen in the tent along with all the ice chests and water.

Unfortunately, a very high hot wind came up in the afternoon and destroyed our beautiful set up. We did put it up again the next day, only to have the same thing happen again. It was in the upper 80's this day, that was the wind velocity. The mornings were great, no wind. Having shade just wasn't meant to be, so I worked on my tan.

Probably the high point of the trip was the meals. Pancakes, potatoes, and bacon really hit the spot. I have to say, we ate really well.
