I have new respect for the owner of the Rockies, Dick Monfort. Here he is shoveling snow off Coors field in preparation for a game. How many owners would do this? I was actually very impressed. Okay Mr. Monfort, what about the pitching?
I sometimes think our scouts are out there asking the wrong questions, like "What's the number that new pitching prospect is wearing?" Then, when the pitcher reports it's, "Hey buddy, He's wearing number 9, three points below his ERA."
Then, a scout reported he'd really discovered a great pitcher. "In last night's game," he said by phone to the manager, "he struck out all twenty-seven men on the other team. What's more, he got all of them in three pitches, except for one guy who hit a foul ball."
The manager said, "Get the name of the guy who hit the foul. "We need hitters!"
