Welcome to Andy's Fragments. What you get here are fragments of my life, the things I believe, the events I encounter, and the people who mean something to me. I trust you will enjoy it as much as I like creating it.

More Snow
I got up this morning, put on a short sleeve shirt, and looked out the window at 6:00a only to see several inches of the white stuff all over. I changed my shirt and it's been snowing all day. This was my route this morning. The photo may change over time.

Sleep
You might remember the day when an American plane shot down two Libyan jets, and the White House was immediately engaged in controversy because Ronald Reagan's aids failed to wake the President up in the middle of the night. The next day, Reagan was at his best when he said, "I've laid down the law to everyone from now on about anything that happens that no matter what time it is I'm to be awakened, even if it's in the middle of a cabinet meeting."

Columbine
Jesus, break the strongholds
Tear down the strings of sin
Release me from my pride
Rescue me from these games
Restore me from the hurt
Renew my heart again
Tear down this bondage
Destroy this burden
Give me love, give me peace.
My life, my love, my wants,
My needs, my passion,
My strength, my faults,
My sin, my friends,
My foes, my family,
My all...is now yours.

t-shirt, sunglasses, and a grandbaby
As I was walking around I was thinking about Seth Andrew. He is my future Grandchild, thanks to Seth and Noelle. I was thinking about them raising a child in a culture that's so screwed up. Parents will need lots of help and support. It reminded me about what Donald Miller talked about in his book, Searching for God Knows What. When talking about Shirley MacLaine and why she wanted to be God, he said, "I could see it in the people on television, I could see it in the people in the movies, I could see it in my friends and family, too. It seemed that every human being had this need for something outside himself to tell him who he was, and that whatever it was that did this was gone." I think the need to be loved and appreciated is enormous. Little Seth Andrew is going to need a lot of love from his family and friends. The self help version of Christianity doesn't meet this need. But, the God of the Bible seems to be brokenhearted over the separation in our relationship and downright obsessed with mending the tear. We're praying for you Seth Andrew.
By the way, the book, Searching for God Knows What is really good. I liked it as much as Blue Like Jazz. If you haven't read it, you should.

Rain, Rain, Rain and a little more
The rain is really needed. After all the snow we've had this year the streets are covered with dirt, mud, sand, and magnesium chloride. In fact the snow plows have left some grass and turf in the street after plowing and not looking where they're going. This rain is washing it all off and making everything green and lush. What a great spring we should have.

Here is what the buyer said, according to bizjournals.
"To us, ServiceMaster is the perfect private equity holding," Sam Darkatsh, an analyst with Raymond James & Associates Inc., wrote in a research note Monday. "Huge, low-risk cash flows, the ability to roll up a fragmented industry and/or sell existing business lines, no Asian import or technological obsolescence risk, terrific brand names, and large (read: deep-pocketed) strategic players who could ultimately present an end game (or IPO, of course)."

ServiceMaster Sold
This company owns Hertz, Jafra, Lexmark, and about 12 other notable companies. The good news about all this is, my stock will go up a couple of dollars to $15 a share. Whoopee! Before 9-11 it was over $30. We have a long way to go. But I am positive about it, and God is faithful in everything, so let's wait and see. I am thanking Him for this.

More NCAA and NBA
Tonight the Nuggets play the Phoenix Suns. We have a secret weapon now with Linus Klieza. I doubt it will help much since the Suns are playing so well, but you never know. Craig, if you're reading this, pay attention to Linus. While everyone double teams AI and Melo, Linus finds his way into the paint. And, he can score from outside the ring. He had 29 points against the Lakers the other night.

NCAA
Nancy must think I'm a little nuts. I call it bracketology. I could've put money on it at work, but I don't gamble. I just do it for the fun.

Snow, Coyotes, and Basketball
The Nuggets have won two straight games. The Phoenix game is coming up, so I don't know if this short streak will last. I picked my brackets for the NCAA tournament. I like Oregon and Mariland this year but I'm afraid Florida will take it all. That would be terrible.

Prove God's Existence?
"Wherefore I shall not here undertake to prove by natural reasons either God's existence, or the Trinity, or the immortality of the soul, nor anything of the kind; not only because I cannot possibly feel competent to draw from nature arguments to convince the hardened atheist, but, further, because such knowledge without Jesus Christ is useless and sterile."
It's interesting that in Pascal's day, "reason" ruled the day. This day and age hundreds of years later, "reason" is not so important. Now you can believe anything you want, and no one cares if it's true. What matters now is, is it true for you? Or, does it make you feel good? Somehow I find it hard to believe that society is better off today than in Pascal's day. Just ask a Frenchman today what he believes.

Weight of Wings
One of my favorite things is visiting REI. I got a dividend check from them the other day and Nancy and I decided to spend it there. I had no idea; clearly half our time was spent in the children's area. It's a big deal.

Amazing Grace
Right before the movie started our friends Keith and Clare Dawson and family walked into the theatre and sat right next to us. That doesn't happen often in Denver. Somehow, it made the movie better. They are very special people.

Propelled by the Sensational?
Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
But only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.
Zacharias says this reminds him of Moses and the burning bush. He says, "God's inexhaustible presence graced those occasions with brilliant and awesome splendor. How inconceivable was the loss for the people when the signs became the ends in themselves and the One signified the means. The special effects became the attraction, and the central figure was obscured. The world of humanity has lived with such blindness, and the mistake has been repeated in virtually every life."
This reminds me of my backpacking trips into the wilderness. I get to play in God's back yard and explore his gardens, and every bush and tree is afire with God. My prayer is that I won't be blind to how and when he works in my life and the life of my family and friends.
